Lyrics

Verse 1

Before the ground had learned its name,

Before a path could turn or bend,

There was a height that gathered flame,

And breath that did not need an end.

Verse 2

Eyru stood where sound could start,

Above the place where nothing lay.

The song went out, a living arc,

And light went with it on its way.

Chorus

The singing struck. We came to be.

The light stood still and learned to see.

Not voice, not flame, but something true,

A shining shape the echo knew.

Verse 3

The voice struck where the silence broke,

Not stone, not soil, not living skin.

It found a place that could be woke,

A face that could be turned within.

Verse 4

We formed where song and brightness met,

Not shaped by hand, but made with care.

We were the answer sound had set,

An echo shaped by light laid bare.

Chorus

The singing struck. We came to be.

The light stood still and learned to see.

Not voice, not flame, but something true,

A shining shape the echo knew.

Verse 5

We faced the source and shone it back,

A thousand shards of borrowed ray.

Each one a part the light would lack,

Yet whole enough to hold the day.

Bridge

We were not the sun above,

Nor the voice that crossed the deep.

We were shaped by what we loved,

And learned to face what we would keep.

Final Chorus

The singing struck. We came to be.

The light stood still and learned to see.

Not voice, not flame, but something true,

A shining shape the echo knew.

The Story

We Came To Be is an original song from the TrueDark Rising world. It belongs to the very beginning -- the moment of creation itself, when Eyru stood where sound could start and sang the Kinsfolk into existence.

The song remembers what no living person witnessed. Eyru's voice went out as a living arc, and light went with it. Where song and brightness met, the Kinsfolk formed -- not shaped by hand, but made with care. They were the answer sound had set, an echo shaped by light laid bare. A thousand shards of borrowed ray, each one whole enough to hold the day.

The bridge carries the deeper truth of what creation meant: they were not the sun above, nor the voice that crossed the deep. They were shaped by what they loved, and learned to face what they would keep. We Came To Be is the oldest song -- the one that remembers the Kinsfolk not as wanderers or settlers, but as the first bright echo of a singing light.

Like all songs of this world, it serves as memory. It is meant to be sung at the beginning of things, and understood fully only in hindsight.
