Fire and Shadow is an original song from the TrueDark Rising world. It belongs to the Night-Sun Event -- the defining moment in Farshadow's history, approximately ten years after the founding, when the Archfiend first attempted to rise at the Crossing.
The song remembers the night the black cloud came down without a sound, too dark for storm, too wide for ground. It traveled along the Worldline to the Crossing and struck with soundless black lightning. Something listened -- and was born. The Archfiend began to rise from the ground, bypassing every defense the Kinsfolk had placed at their perimeter. The danger came not from beasts or hunger, but from where the answers sleep -- when shadow met in place and time.
The people did not wait to name or know. They broke the calm. They broke the night. They chose flame against fright. What began as scattered fire became a bonfire fed by hands that would not let what woke there take their breath and bone. The final chorus names the truth: not a sun and not a flame, not a star they dared to name -- born of fear and chosen sight, they made the fire, they made the light. The Night Sun did not rise on its own. It was raised.
Like all songs of this world, it serves as memory. It is meant to be sung with defiance, and understood fully only in hindsight.
